LCS FACILITY GROUP AND COVID-19

WE ARE COMMITTED TO COMPLETELY ERADICATING NOVEL CORONAVIRUS FROM OUR CLIENTS’ PREMISES

The international pandemic of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected every aspect of our lives. For leadership in the healthcare, commercial, education and construction fields, it has implications on how work is done, and whether work can be done. At LCS Facility Group, our highly trained and loyal personnel are meeting this challenge with power and purpose, every single day. Our technology and expertise is second to none, our people show extraordinary dedication. For almost 20 years our clients have entrusted us with the precious lives of their employees, customers, students and visitors. As a family-owned company, even though we now work across many states, we are aware of our collective responsibility to totally wipe-out Coronavirus wherever it may be found.

To show you how we do that, first let’s take a quick look at the life of the Coronavirus.

What we know about Coronavirus

What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is named for its shape. If viewed under a microscope it looks like a ball – or a blob – surrounded by crown-like spikes. It is one of a family of seven viruses (including SARS and MRS). Because it is a new version of the Coronavirus it is sometimes called “new Coronavirus” or “novel Coronavirus”. New Coronavirus can cause a potentially serious, and even fatal, illness called COVID-19.

What is a pandemic?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Coronavirus a pandemic — an announcement that signals the outbreak has defied efforts to contain it. Previous outbreaks were labeled “pandemics” to indicate that efforts to contain it had failed. However, this game is not over at all. As The Washington Post says, “This outbreak has behaved differently, however, and the WHO has stressed in recent weeks that all countries should focus on containment even as they begin ramping up efforts to mitigate. By working to contain the virus, countries can slow down the spread of the disease and buy time to work more on mitigation strategies.”

How is Coronavirus spread?

By people
In close contact with one another
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person:

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet)
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
  • These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
  • In addition, someone can spread the virus without realizing they have it, although they are believed to be the most contagious when they are the most sick.

By surfaces
Spreading from contact with infected surfaces or objects.
Research by the National Institute of Health on March 17, 2020 states that although person to person transmission is the most likely, the virus can also spread in the air and on surfaces. The scientists tested the viruses on plastic, stainless steel, copper, and cardboard. The alarming conclusions are that the virus can remain active under the following conditions:

  • Fabric and porous–3 hours
  • Copper and wood–4 hours
  • Metal–2-3 days
  • Plastic–2-3 days
  • Cardboard–24 hours

Virus molecules remain stable in external cold, in air conditioning, in houses, in cars.

If you shake or use a feather duster, the virus molecules float in the air for up to 3 hours and can lodge in the nose.

In a study published the same month in the Journal of Hospital Infection, the results were even more alarming:
Human coronaviruses can remain infectious on inanimate surfaces for up to 9 days at room temperature

These factors are part of the reasons that healthcare officials recommend a 14 day quarantine after exposure to the virus either through person-to-person contact, or exposure to contaminated services.

How can the virus be eradicated?

To completely eliminate bacteria and viruses, mere cleaning is not enough. Touchpoint cleaning must first be conducted and then surfaces must be thoroughly coated in an effective virucide solution and remain wet for 10 minutes.
